There has been a fair bit of interest expressed in a Halloween meet/event of some sort, and since, as I may have yodeled from all available mountaintops mentioned once or twice, I fucking love Halloween, this is definitely something I think we should make happen!
The catch, though, is that Aki Con (Bellevue, WA) takes place the last weekend of October, and I've made plans to be there. And Halloween itself has the misfortune of falling right in the middle of the week this year.
So! Suggestions! Plans! Ideas! All those wonderful things!
Please!

Trick or Treating where vanstucks get into groups and they go to places and try to collect as much candy as they can in a certain amount of time and the winning group gets a prize?
Super lame haunted house? Uhm uhm dressing up as trolls and giving little candycorn goodie bags to people? I'm bad at ideas ;C;

A super low-budget haunted house (Sober themed? Clowns? Candy Corn Vampires?) sounds really cool, as does a big party with games (apple bobbing, hanging doughnuts, pumpkin carving?) but we'd need an appropriate venue and date/time.
If we wanted to go trick-or-treating, I think we would probably have to split into a number of smaller local groups? Maybe all the PoCo/Coquitlam/Ridgestucks could hang out in one neighbourhood, or the Burquitlam kids, or the Vancouver or the Richmond 'Stucks, but trying to organise one and only one group of trick-or-treaters sounds pretty overwhelming.

I was thinking that a party like at Suity Rumpus could be fun, see if we can find a venue and have a halloween party there, like Jack said? Provided that a bit under two months is enough notice for them... Maybe we could go to a big park somewhere, though it might be getting cold around then and who knows with fall weather.
Local trick-or-treat parties could be cool, for on actual Halloween. That way people could still do something on the day and the people who live further away (like the 'Ridgestucks) wouldn't have to worry about traveling as far to get home.

Personally I like the idea of the little games and such. I was going to suggest having a themed party or something. Whether it be at a venue or have it at a local park or something. [I'm considering doing this for myself for Halloween actually.] But like take a Homestuck character, cosplay them, and then add bits and pieces of OTHER character costume pieces to it. Like Cosplay Dave Strider, but have skeleton makeup and a pinstripe suit, so it's like Dave being Jack Skelington or Cosplay Jade and have peices of the Wicked witch of the west from Wizard of Oz. It could work for the trolls too UwU [I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, I just thought it would look kinda cool to have people being the Homestuck characters in costume.]

I think we might be running really short on time to be able to book a big venue. Getting that all sorted for the Hivernal Solstice dance is already a little closer than would be perfectly ideal, haha. If it's warm enough, a park may work.
I guess another consideration is that I think Greg may have a dance going on the same weekend as Aki-con, which may be something Vanstucks could do?

Fright Nights would be fun, but cost is an issue - one of the other requests we heard very frequently was for cheap events as much as possible. If enough people are chill with the cost of a Fright Nights meet (and get the group rate!) that's certainly a possibility, though. I think it would just be good to have something else as a backup so those of us who can't drop twenty or thirty on a meet aren't left high and dry, especially for a special occasion as necessary to life as Halloween. owo

I definitely think getting a venue is a must if we want a "party" ish feel, especially with the size of our group. Other than that, I think maybe a contest of sorts would be cool? Like the thrill thing where you still your hand in a bag and it feels like eyeballs but it's just peeled grapes~

I know some people that would possibly maybe know of cheap venues to rent in Vancouver. I'll ask them about it?
